The best book that I read in 2007! This is a well-told story that contrasts human behaviour. The story is intimate and above all, an endearing one. Well done Lloyd Jones!

What a great read! I really enjoyed following Matilda in her discovery of Great Expectations. The characters were good and believable.
Parts of the book made me laugh, especially the mothers coming into class trying to teach the children something. I could feel the kids embarresment on my body. Although some of them did have something wise to say; "Stories have a job to do. They can't just lie around like lazybone gods. They have to teach you something."
Other parts nearly made me cry.

Thanks for sharing Fuzzywuzzy, the book will travel I just haven't decided how yet!

Mjau!

Thank you! I found this on my desk just now, must have forgotten to journal it when it arrived, I'm sorry. Hope you have not been too worried about it.
Mister Pip is safe for now.

Yes, this is a good and warm book. The characters are likable and true in an unpretentious way, that I like.
Some of the events happen kind of suddenly, the beginning is so well built up that (trying to not give things away here) I don't really keep up with the change...
I wonder if I would have seen it differently if I had actually read Great Expectations?

YES! I just realised this is on the wishlist of the person I am Secret Santa for. Great! I had picked another book, thinking that would fit but this is just perfect. So now I have to make haste and read it fast. Tjoho!! I am so happy!

Journal Entry 14 by elis-fromSweden from Stenstorp, Västergötland Sweden on Wednesday, December 30, 2009
I actually finnished this book before Christmas but I didn't manage to send it in time to reach it destination before Christmas. However, now it is sent and I hope it will be enjoyed.

I am very happy that I read this book it gave me lots of food for thought. It was different, for me, a different culture was depicted and I wasn't aware of the history of these islands, at least not in such detail that I could understand what would happen or who the redskins are.

Some parts will stay in my mind, gruesome images of violence and terror, but also nice moments of laughter, joy and happiness. I was surpised that it was set in such modern time, it felt like it happend ages ago.

I am very glad I have read Great Expectations. I don't know if it made any difference but at least I don't have to think that I would have understand something more had I read it.

ps. The fact that this book has travelled quite a lot in a short time (with out being a ray) and that all the readers (so far) have enjoyed it pleases me alot. That is bookcrossing!

Thank you so very much for this book from my wishlist. I'm really looking forward to reading this one! Thanks to elis-fromSweden for sending me this well traveled book!

*Updated* Forgot to journal before sending it off for the Unconvention. The book was really interesting. Parts were funny, parts sad, parts disturbing and I couldn't put the book down. I really enjoyed it even though it was haunting and stays with you. I think that is part of the beauty of it. I'm so glad that I got the chance to read this book.
