I have surrendered to the hype and bought this book. It does look like fun. If I finish it early enough, I plan to book ring or bookray it in BC.

Cute. Either it wasn't as good as hype had made it, or trying to read this after dental work is an unfair test of a book... It improved towards the end of the book, but still I'd spent big sections of the book wanting to shake some sense into the heroine.

Plan to offer this for a book ring soon. 16 Apr 03.

Started to the first member of the bookring, Hawkette in Australia on Fri. 25 April 03.

I am now reading this, full steam ahead. Had a little trouble getting into it, but now I am flying. A bit of a love interest always gets you hooked, doesn't it. Actually, reading this is making me a bit panicy about my own finances, and career direction. I think I am having my quarter life crisis right along with Becky! Oh dear!!

I enjoyed this as an entertaining and light read, with a few laugh out loud moments.
I will post onto the next recipient in the next few days.

I found this book lying round the house and decided to read it because I had some spare time over the weekend. I enjoyed the book but found it hard to get in to and also it took a long time to get to the main point of the story - her writing the life changing article and then everyone living happily every after! But it was a quick read and better than some...

Have just posted this, so it is on its way across the sea to New Zealand!

Finished reading last night, really enjoyed it, felt quite bad for Rebecca in some points and sympathized with her in other areas. I am somewhat of a shopaholic myself :) so this was a good one to read. Sending probably today or tomorrow to JulieBarreto. Hope it reaches you soon, Thanks Amberlee17 for starting this bookring.

Sent this to JulieBarreto today, it was sent air mail, so hopefully will be there in about a week or so. Hope it hurries to your door :)

Shopaholic arrived today, June 16. It seems very appropriate as, sitting next to my computer, is a brand new Barbie doll called "City Shopper Barbie", a gift from my aunt (who has developed a serious Barbie E-Bay shopping jones). CS Barbie is all decked out in a white Nicole Miller sheath with a matching coat with cute lining and is accessorized with a big Macy's shopping bag! Oh, and did I mention that, in the last two months, I have bought myself four pair of cute (natch!) red shoes?

What a consumer culture we live in! The urge to buy and acquire is SO strong, at least it is in me. Granted this is a silly fairy tale of a book, but I think Kinsella has taken an important issue and done a nice little riff with it. I feel bad; I'll go shopping. "When the going gets tough; the tough go shopping." And shopping is just pushed in our faces all the time in the media. Even young children seem to have preferences about clothing and shoes and whatever! Who can resist such sophisticated appeals to our unconscious desires to feel with-it and popular and just ok? Well...I enjoyed it and now it's off to Onesmartcookie in the land of the giant mall....Edmonton, Canada!

Don't know what happened to OneSmartCookie's entry but I enjoyed it as a light, quick read. There were a couple of points where I wanted to shake her silly for being so stupid, but otherwise a fun read. Thanks!!
