Winner of the Costa First Novel award. This novel mainly takes place in a large impersonal shopping centre, which is hated by all the staff. A main character is a charming little girl who wants to be a detective and 'stakes out' the shopping centre after school. This is a good mystery story as well as saying something pretty meaningful about consumertism and chain record shops.
