Pikelet and Loonie are teenage best friends, obsessed with surfing. When they meet Sando,a man in his thirties, it is almost like they become his disciples as they follow him to find riskier and more dangerous waves farther out to sea on dangerous shark infested reefs. I didn't really like any of the characters as I felt that they were very self indulgent men who thought of nothing but themselves and their next thrill. However the book held my interest as I kept waiting for disaster to strike.
The book is set in Australia.

I had planned to send this book away on a RABCK but I see that many of the pages are coming loose so I will not send a book in that condition to a stranger. Instead I am giving it to my sister Oldgreymare to read and toss it out if she so desires.

Since I had just finished reading Dirt Music by the same author and enjoyed it immensely, I was a bit disappointed in this book. However it was one of those books that needed to be read all the way to the end. Thanks Kayjay for leaving it for me. I plan to take it to The Pas with me tomorrow when I go for a casino trip and will leave it in the hotel regardless whether it is falling apart or not.
