Using an old bc number for this as I had registered the same book twice.
Spinning a web from a real incident, when the French funambule Philippe Petit cast a rope between the tops of the two towers of the WTC in New York and walked across in 1974, McCann tells the stories of various witnesses, drawing in characters as varied as hookers in the Bronx, two brothers from Ireland, the bourgeois wife of a lawyer and other mothers who have lost their sons in Vietnam, all of whom connect in some way. Very cleverly done; like the lawyer I was wondering how he got that rope across (we do find out in the end), and the writing is, in places, exquisite. All the strings are neatly tied up in the last chapter which takes place in 2006 when the towers are no more. A fascinating mix of fact and fiction.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Un lecteur fréquentant le Marché Bar sera peut-être content de le trouver. J'ai eu du mal à accrocher à ce roman et à ses premières pages plutôt sombres. Il est pourtant bien écrit par un auteur que j'apprécie habituellement.
