This book could have gone wrong in so many ways... the premise, that of a man who gives away his newborn daughter because she is born with Down's syndrome, is already stuff of High Drama. Add to it the fact that the daughter is one half of a set of twins, and that the man chooses to tell the mother & brother that the daughter died, and you have the potential for creating a very melodramatic situation. Somehow, however, the author makes the story work. I was fascinated as I read the book, watching the characters lives unravel & grow around the huge secret that touches them all. Definitely an unusual book, and one which I will remember...
