I found this cheaply from a second hand shop. I think that I'm not trying to read this in English. I'll try release this soon.

Well, I don't usually like sci-fi books that much but I quite enjoyed this. I was a bit confused at first as I saw the film a while ago and, despite not being able to remember much about the film, the book seems to bear no relation to it except in that there are robots and the 3 laws of robotics! Stubee will probably correct me on this once he's read it though!

Anyway, I liked the way the book was written with each of the chapters being stand alone stories and the mysteries of behaviour being uncovered and resolved, but all linked together and charting the development of robotics. It was really interesting and I'm glad I read this.

This has been passed back to Stubee.

This was a pretty good read, I'm kind of surprised that Ottawa was made capital of the Northern Region, I thought it would probably be Washington, DC or something.

I already have cat207's address and I plan on mailing this today.

Thanks cat207! Your bumper parcel turned up this morning, chock full of bookcrossing goodness. This is one I've read before (albeit many, many years ago). I still remember the Laws of Robotics, one of the classic motifs of sci-fi.

However, I'm less impressed with Asimov now than when I was a teenager. Sci-fi's come a long way since his writing. Great science, but often missing a heart (or characterisation, I guess). (Mr TQD does call his style of sci-fi "men wearing hats in space" because of its lack of thinking about the changes of society; it's much more about science. And - to me at any rate - the best sci-fi is about people and/or society, asking the big "what if" questions.)

Not to diss Isaac Asimov, I did enjoy his stuff and he had some good ideas, and this is a classic of its era.

Since this has already been on a ring, I shall offer it up this round of the Oz VBB.

UPDATE 12 Feb 2009: And into the Oz VBB it goes...

UPDATE 18 Feb 2009: ...and out it goes, to DeeKay57! Will pop it in the post asap.

I read this book many, many years ago and just loved catching up with it again. Very interesting premises re robots, are we they far away now? What is really being made in labs over the world.....
