I took this book with me from the opening meeting of OBCZ Lux in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. I am reserving it for the Foreign Exchange OBCZ. I am holding a private bookswap for club members at my house this week, so I'm hoping someone will take it then. At the moment the OBCZ is a more or less private library / bookswap for the Foreign Exchange / ICON (new name!) expat club members. Books which sit around too long will be released, probably at OBCZ Lux.
Added (some months ago) to BCZ ForeignExchange: An English-language BookCrossing Zone based in the Nijmegen / Arnhem region of the Netherlands (Click here for more details.) If you would like to borrow or swap this or any other book on the shelf, click on the ForeignExchange link at the top of this Journal Entry to go to the bookshelf, and send a PM (Private Message) - click on the link underneath the bookshelf statistics.
Taken to release at Castricum.

This omnibus has two stories of Shaun Hutson: Death Day and Renegades. Both have an element of horror, but the stories have a very different take on it. Death Day is more focused on undead monsters terrorizing the town and a few policemen who have to solve the mystery. Renegades is more focused on terrorism and IRA, while the horror element has a side role. Personally, I liked Death Day more because the monsters are more present. In Renegades, the 'monster' only shows up at the end and is finished off quickly. Shaun Hutson really knows how to write gory scenes in explicit detail. You can almost feel the pain of the bullets as you read how they travel through a body, destroying everything in its path. The characters are stereotypes, but for this type of story it's ok. You have to use a bit of suspension of disbelief in both stories, especially in Death Day, but it is mindless fun and gore.
