A Penguin '60 ... :-)

From the back cover:

'Four stories of contemporary horror

Poppy Z. Brite was born in 1967 in New Orleans. An assortment of offbeat jobs has included mouse caretaker, artist's model and exotic dancer, and her interests include underground comix, Italian zombie films, seventies glam metal and death rock. She attended the University of North Carolina very briefly before dropping out to write her first horror novel, Lost Souls. These stories are taken from Swamp Foetus; Penguin also published Drawing Blood.'

Four stories by Poppy Brite, an author I like a lot, although I haven't kept up with her most recent work. She has an unusual writing style, is very good at quirky characters (to put it mildly ;-) and often tackles difficult subjects in her novels. I am less a fan of her short stories, but then again I almost always enjoy novels much more generally.

This is a tiny paperback book from Penguin, from the series Penguin '60s which was published on the occasion of Penguin Books' 60th anniversary in 1995.

I bought this book at a flea market at Grünerløkka elementary school in Oslo on Saturday, April 26th, 2008.
