The Eyre Affair: A Thursday Next Novel

I was thrilled to find this at the annual Strolling of the Heifers' library book sale. I've wanted to read this series for the longest time. I almost bought this a few days before, but I decided to hold off. My frugality was rewarded! I can't wait to start this!
Amazing! I couldn't put it down. The quote on the book's cover from the Wall Street Journal reads "....combines elements of Monty Python, Harry Potter, Stephen Hawking and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But its quirky charm is all its own." Several other critics compared it to Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy (my absolute favorite), so I was really excited about starting the Thursday Next series. The pages aren't full of witty quips and outlooks on life like Hitchhikers, but The Eyre Affair didn't disappoint for a second. I fell in love with the characters immediately. From Thursday's goofy but kind hearted brother, the Irrevrand Joffy Next to the Japanese tourist Mrs. Nakajima who likes to "cross over" and visit the novel Jane Eyre, they are all wonderfully quirky, complicated, unique, flawed, human. And I absolutely love how the mysteries are centered around Literature. Jasper Fforde has his and classic fiction characters interact in a completely innovative way that still remains true to the classic characters. Fforde brings his characters and others alive in a whole new way. Simply put.. HE'S BRILLIANT! This is one book I will definitely read and read and read again!
