Bought from the British Red Cross charity shop in Acocks Green earlier today.

"Mariah White thought her life was pretty much perfect. A wife and mother was all she ever wanted to be.

So when she catches her husband with another woman, her world falls apart. And when her daughter, Faith, begins to confide in an imaginary friend, her own brush with insanity takes on a darker meaning.

Then Faith appears to start performing miracles, and all at once the situation is spiralling beyond Mariah's control. Is Faith truly seeing God? Or is she just a troubled little girl seeking refuge from her parent's divorce? And is Mariah fighting for what's best for her child? Or a desperate mother using her daughter to get the world's attention?"

Jodi Picoult's novels make you reconsider your values. However, the last two I have struggled with as they deal with non-logical areas.

Another novel from the Jodi Picoult factory. Step 1 - Take controversial subject. Step 2 - explore both sides of topic. Step 3 - court case. I'm sure Jodi Picoult is just a computer program.

Although, I really can't fault her as she always writes a page turner. Although, as BeckyDore says, this book deals with a non-logical area, I still couldn't put it down. If you're willing to go with the flow then it is interesting enough. I did feel for Mariah (close to Mary, mother of God) and Faith. Although, Picoult tries to paint Colin in a sympathetic light, I never did really feel sorry for him (boo! hiss!).

I keep saying I'm going to give up on Picoult but I keep picking them up.

Will send to the next reader some time this week.

Just finished reading this a minute ago, and must say I was impressed. WHereas I usually find Jodi Picoult's writing to be emtionally manipulative claptrap and just an extension of unresovled teen angst, with this book, I acutally felt sympathy for the characters, and therefore, even though the plot was completely ludicrous, (as an agnostic and scientifically minded person, I find it a bit difficult to swallow the idea of a "faith healers"), this book scored big points with me. I thought the mother/daughter relationships were very well written, the exchanges between Mariah and Colin were realistic and honestly, the only thing about this book that wasn't realistic was the original premise of a so-called "miracle worker". Glad I read this and thank you so much for sharing, beckydore. Will post on to candy-is-dandy as soon as I get an address.
