A wonderful little book.
The Queen discovers, after a lifetime of devotion to public duty and smalltalk, the joy of books. She has many years of missed reading to catch up, but her staff are not happy about it.
I do hope Her Majesty finds this to read - I hope she would say "We are amused".

Well, the book was still where I left it a few weeks earlier, so it seems that the people of Litton don't read much, and HM didn't visit. I'm going to release it again in Wiltshire when I go on a course. I hope someone there, with an interest in books, will find it.
I read this little book in 2 sittings and really enjoyed the dry humour typical of Alan Bennett. He has a knack of unfolding the story in such a clever and absurd way that it captures the reader's imagination.
I am going to take the book to my next book club meeting on 16th March and pass it on to a friend. I hope that she will enjoy it too.
