I only skipped through this.
My main reason for buying it was that when I looked through it after picking it out of a bargain bin I stumbled on a piece written about the restaurant of an Austrian hotel (no longer in existence). I liked this bit a lot and wanted to yell out, "That is so true." at times. There still are a few places here in Vienna that have some of this same air about them.

Like a curate's egg... good and bad in parts... It probably sounded like a great idea when pitched but when executed it is a miscellany rather than a compendium of pieces. Too many of the pieces are predictable, Elizabeth David, George Orwell for instance.
