Cat in a Kiwi Con
2 journalers for this copy...
By any definition, this is a special book.
It was given to me by the staff at Robert Jordan's office during our Charleston stopover. I noticed the word 'Kiwi' on the cover and was commenting on it so they gave it to me.
This is also, if I have counted correctly, my 500th book registered. I am sure that I will register many more but I doubt that any will evoke memories more special than this one does.

Borrowed from Otakuu.
That day in Charleston when we visited Robert Jordan's house was amazing (even if I was suffering from a bit of a bug (though the bug did mean that I can say I've pooed in Robert Jordan's toilet - how's that for six degrees of separation??? ;-) )). And just seeing this book brings back fantastic memories.
Of course, with cat in the title, I couldn't have resisted it anyway :-)

(If only it wasn't such a special book, I'd be wanting to release it at the 2009 convention - wouldn't that be a perfect themed release? But don't worry, it'll get back to you safe and sound.)

With such an illustrious history, it's a pity I didn't really enjoy the book.
The cat as narrator thing wasn't as cutesy and annoying as I expected (it doesn't at least descend to the level of Rita Mae Brown's books), but I still prefer the Cat Who... cats, where it's left nicely ambiguous whether their mystery-solving assistance is deliberate or just an accident of catly behaviour.
My real problem with the book was that I just couldn't get into the characters or the story. A lot of this is because this is obviously somewhere in the middle of a series, so much of the action was in relation to a longer story-arc and didn't make sense in isolation, but I didn't get any real sense of the characters as individuals - I had to keep stopping to remind myself which one the action was centring around now, because they wouldn't differentiate themselves for me.
I reckon DOC would have a lot to say about the treatment of the poor kiwi, too!!!
