Shadow, having just been released from prison, runs into a mysterious Mr. Wednesday who convinces Shadow they should travel together. It soon turns out that Mr. Wednesday is actually the god Odin, and all the old gods are dying because people have adopted new gods in their place.

I didn't really like this book much at all. Gaiman gets to show off his knowledge of mythology, but he did that ever so much better in Sandman. Shadow is a really blank slate, a character that I didn't care for one bit. Everything takes a long time to happen, and when finally there begin to be confrontations, the new gods turn out to be really unimaginative.

I've heard a lot about this author but never read any of his books. I grabbed this at our local meet up, but will take a while to read.

I grabbed this book from monthly meeting over a year ago, as the book was thick I did not read it right away... now I got the reason to read it. I've now at page 163 and it seems the story is not going much anywhere.

I find Shadow so pitiful person that I truly want to know how things go for him in the end. So I continue with the book for some more. After reading the book leaves to other side of world as Smile Day RABCK.

Finally finished!

The book was hard to read to the end, but I liked the end, as it explained well enough what happened to the persons I liked the most in the book; Shadow, Sam and Laura.

I liked the use of mythology in the book, but the progress of things was so slow that you could easily take 100 pages off from the book, without making the book less informative or interesting. In the middle of book I did not read properly but just skim through the pages...

Now the book goes travelling. Finally!

EDIT 23.4.2010: I was cleaning my bookshelves and noticed this book was marked Reserved. I have given this forward, but so I change the status to travelling.
