The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Change

I found this book to be extremely interesting in unexpected ways. Initially, I thought that the primary focus of the book would be the serial killer, Holmes. Although the book did have a lot of info on Holmes, the main focus of the book was the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the architects who created it. I was pretty blown away by all of the information regarding the fair. I think that even by today's standards, it would have been awe inspiring.
Erik Larson does a great job at telling the story of Holmes, while setting the scene with the fair. Some of the murder parts are very graphic. At one point, I was eating lunch while reading and I had to stop eating, because I was getting queasy. Larson does not spare details!
Sending to ekgv414 as a trade. Enjoy!

Received today along with Special Topics in Calamity Physics. I'm going on a trip later this week, so I'll probably throw both of these in my bag. We'll see how much time I have to read while I'm away!
Thanks so much for the trade, Karen.

Finally finished this one at the laundromat today. It took me almost a month to get through it - partly because I just haven't had so much time to read this summer, and partly because I found it a bit slow going. I did thoroughly enjoy the book, and scoured the internet for photos or illustrations of the fair!
Just found this book on some wishlists and chose one to offer it up as a trade. I hope she gets back to me!
