The Caged Virgin: An Emancipation Proclamation for Women and Islam

Having lived for more than 20 years in Saudi Arabia, and having never once heard or read a single word of criticism of Islam from a woman's point of view, I was very intrigued to read about this author when her collaborator Van Gogh was murdered in Holland. Reading this book which is a compilation for her writings from various sources was quite a realization. I thought I had a pretty good grounding in Islam, but I was shocked to read that Mohammed the Prophet married his favorite wife who is mentioned frequently in his writings when she was only nine. That pretty much sums up the attitude of Islam to women. But only Islamic women can make the necessary changes and if they are unwilling to fight for a better place for themselves, then they are doomed.
Using this book to introduce my new acquaintance Doanh, to the joys of bookcrossing. I hope she passes this book amongst all her Aussie friends and it gets the wide readership it deserves.
