This book was waiting for me in a scarily high pile of books from my wishlist on the third national Bookcrossing convention held in Suomenlinna. Thank you for fulfilling my wish, BC-Helsinki!

10.1.2009 I bought the Finnish translation of the book in the sales today - No. 456 on the 1001 books you must read before you die list. As this book is in many wishlists, so I decided to make a bookray of this English copy.

The preferred length to keep the book is one month, but I know people have lives outside of bookcrossing, so I’m not too fussy about it. Otherwise the regular rules apply: make a journal entry when you receive the book, when you've read it to let the others know what you thought about the book and when you send the book to the next participant of the ray.

The final order of the participants:

1. Wandering-B, Hong Kong (anywhere)
2. blackteiwaz, Costa Rica (Americas and Europe)
3. BettyBoekwurm, Portugal (Europe)
4. Anais-Anais, The Netherlands (???) (asked to be skipped)
5. Gnoe, The Netherlands (Europe)
6. pageturner2006, UK (UK)
7. LittleSuz, UK (EU) (asked to be skipped)
8. jellyfish67, UK (???) (skipped, no answer to pms)
9. hannahcooper40, UK (anywhere) <-- THE BOOK IS HERE
10. WickedWordz, USA (USA, near the end of the ray)
11. MamaLala, USA (???)

16.1.2009 I mailed the book for Wandering-B this morning.

Received today. Thanks hetku77 for sending this out. I've got two in front of it, but it should not take all that long.

Having lived in the South and through the Civil Rights period, I can relate to a lot of the events in this book. There probably are still a few places throughout the South that these beliefs and mores are still observed, but hopefully not many.

Super book - I enjoyed the characters and watching Scout grow from year to year was entertaining. Ready to send to the next reader.

It's here! Thank you so much! I'll do my best to pass it on quickly.
Thank you Wandering-B for the lovely bookmark and postcard! :)

I must say that I only decided to read this book because of the great reviews I read pretty much everywhere. It seemed like everyone had read it and enjoyed it. I also saw a movie once, regarding Truman Capote's book: In cold blood, where Harper Lee, being his closest friend, appeared, that also intrigued me.
I had no idea what the book was about, I thought it was sort of an autobiography of Harper Lee, and I was expecting a bunch of anecdotes weaved together, but nothing more.
It surprised me to find such an interesting narrative of a trial, and the series of events before and after it, viewed from the eyes of a child. It is also the depiction of a concrete time and space, that helps us understand, or at least get a glimpse of why people act the way they do. It is masterfully written and it definitely kept my interest from start to finish.
I already have the address for the next reader and will be sending this book on its way on Monday. Thank you for sharing it with me.

I'm so sorry for having this book with me for so long, but real life has an annoying habit of getting in the way sometimes.

I loved thos book. It certainly makes sense why it's become such a classic.

I'll be sending it to Gnoe next week (since Anais-Anais has asked to be skipped)

Thanks for sharing!

Perfect timing! I just finished my current read on the way back from work and found To Kill a Mockingbird in my mailbox when I got home. That's especially good news since I'll be making a train journey of 2 x 2.5 hrs tomorrow... so I will have to start a new book!

Update September 13th
*SIGH* I have just finished reading To Kill a Mockingbird this morning and I loved it. I am definitely going to buy a copy 'for keeps'!

I am very glad I got to read this book. I don’t think it will end up in my 2009 top 5 list, but it was a quick, entertaining read: the story immediately grabbed me and I liked the atmosphere of doom, suggesting that ’something was going to happen’. I never knew there was such a genre as Southern Gothic, so I even learned something new!

There's so much to contemplate about this book, I couldn't even tell it all. Read some more on my blog: Graasland.
