Amazon Editorial Review:
Lawrence's first major novel was also the first in the English language to explore ordinary working-class life from the inside. No writer before or since has written so well about the intimacies enforced by a tightly-knit mining community and by a family where feelings are never hidden for long. Paul Morel is caught between his need for family and community and his efforts to define himself sexually and emotionally. Lawrence's powerful description of Paul's relationships makes this a novel as much for the beginning of the twenty-first century as it was for the beginning of the twentieth.

This is also No. 749 on the 1001 books you must read before you die list.

Bookray
Starting a bookray for this book. This is one of several books donated to the 1001-library. Rather than have them sit on my shelf, I am sending them out as bookrays. The last person on the ray should return the book back to the library or if he/she prefers, the book can be returned to me.

Please PM me if interested in joining. Bookray will remain open until last person has the book.

Participants so far:

. fushmush from UK (Europe preferred - international if needed)
. jellyfish67 from UK (international)
. nikel27 from Germany (international)
. Mozette from Australia (international)

Note: Order is subject to change based on shipping preferences and others joining the bookray.

How the bookray works:
* Someone will PM you for your address, PM them back and provide your address
* When you receive the book, please make a journal entry letting everyone know that you received it
* Put the book at the top of your TBR pile (under other rings/rays that arrived first)
* Read the book (take your time and enjoy the book, don't feel rushed to finish it but try to get it out to next reader within a couple of months)
* When the end is in sight, check the book's journal and PM the next person to get their address
* Finish the book, make another journal entry and let everyone know what you thought of the book
* Send the book to the next person on the list (please use the cheapest shipping method available), make release notes (Controlled Release) or journal entry to let everyone know that it's in the mail
* Last person on the ray: This book has been removed from the 1001-library so you can either redonate the book to the 1001-library or pass it on to someone else as a RABCK, etc.

Please feel free to PM me at any time with questions

Bookray is now complete!

Journal Entry 6 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, April 3, 2009
ugh! I'm half way through this and I keep finding myself putting it down and picking up other books to read. I think that if I persevered that I would eventually finish it. However, I'm about to go on holidays for a month and I'm not sure that I can really delay this ray any longer.

I have been defeated by D H Lawrence.

Journal Entry 11 by Mozette at Logan City, Queensland Australia on Sunday, March 20, 2016
Oh! Man! I've had this book for a while and clean forgot to journal it!

Please forgive me everyone. I've been working on an art piece (which I finally got in before the deadline), looked around and realised I hadn't journaled this book!

I did sit down and have a few goes at reading it over a few late nights and a few days off the arty-time. However, I just couldn't get into it. I guess there's time for D.H. Lawrence, there's times where your brain and imagination doesn't jump in.

Now, I was looking at who to send this to, but I've noted that I'm the last one the list... I'll keep this for a bit and see who to send this on to - unless an extended holiday comes up at some point soon.
