Boy Meets Body: Partners In Crime #1

I'd enjoyed several books by Josh Lanyon, and that led me to the Scared Stiff erotic anthology featuring stories by Lanyon, Sarah Black, and two other authors. It turned out that I liked Lanyon's and Black's stories best, so when I found that they had teamed up to produce a couple of two-novella mysteries, I decided to order them. [Since they're gay-themed mysteries, I've categorized one book under "Gay & Lesbian" and one under "Mystery & Thriller" just to cover more bases.]
Later: I enjoyed both of these stories very much. Lanyon's story, "Cards on the Table", has two main characters who are somewhat similar to those of his "Adrien English" books - a cop who seems reluctant to get involved in a relationship, and a more bookish type who has a potentially-dangerous health condition, but here the romance plays out in a less frustrating manner than in the three "English" novels. The plot has to do with a 50-year-old Hollywood murder, and one character's attempt to learn more about it - even at the risk of rousing the murderer to new attempts.
Black's story "Murder at the Heartbreak Hotel" contrasts in several ways - instead of Hollywood stars, it deals with Alaskan dog-sledders, and instead of a tentative young couple it features a long-term couple approaching middle age. A young visitor at one character's inn turns up dead, the innkeeper's long-time lover (who spends at least half of each year in an isolated fishing shack training his sled team) returns to help his partner, and they have to deal with the rocky aspects of their own relationship while trying to detect a murderer.
There are steamy bits in both stories, as well as romantic elements - from the tentative "does he really want me" version to the bittersweet "what happened to us" kind - and the mysteries - not bad for novella-length stories!
