So I went into Chapters with a friend who had one specific book to buy. I know the dangers, but we were going to zip in and zip out. Just that one book for him.
Sigh... I cannot justify buying another book with the hundreds still waiting for me on my own shelves. Not even a Canadian book; I have hundreds of those too. But at $4.99 I succumbed.

To be perfectly honest once I was introduced to Moranna MacKenzie, I was quite prepared not to like her or this book. I am for the most part a kind and empathetic person, but I have more than enough crazy people (alright people suffering from mental illnesses) in and touching upon my life that my tolerance level is near exhausted much of the time. I did not want to be manipulated into liking Moranna. But Joan Clark's writing was wonderful. I've not read anything of hers before and I'm sure I will again now. Her treatment of Moranna and all of the characters in this book was gentle and non-judgemental (although I did notice that ex-hubby, of whom even I could be critical (how could he not have eventually ensured his daughters saw their mother again?) was looking sickly by the end of the book).

I loved Bun and drew some lessons from him.

And, I absolutely loved how this novel ended - as sweet and uplifting as one could ever hope. If I was manipulated...oh, well.

This is my third book read for The 2nd Canadian Challenge, Eh.
