I really liked Bryce Courtenay's earlier books. 'April Fool's Day' should be something everyone should read and 'The Power of One' and 'Tandia' are wonderful stories. Somehow I don't come away from his books set in historical Australia with anywhere near the same enthusiasm. This book didn't work for me.
