A rather different satire from his political masterpiece, "What a Carve Up", this intriguing novel explores love, obsession, memory and...my favourite thing...sleep.

It centres around for people who had been students together in the mid 80's and who wind up returning to the building whih had been their hall of residence, but now, 12 years on, houses a sleep disorder clinic. One of the characters suffers from narcolepsy with vivid dreams that merge with her reality, one is a character who now hardly sleeps at all.

The novel is structured so that the chapters alternate between the the past and the present and explores the relationships between the characters, building to a dramatic - possibly even melodramatic - climax.

Combines scathing and dry wit with poignancy, laugh out loud funny to moving and disturbing. All round excellent.
