On its way to the winner of the Non-fiction Sweepstake.
This sounds very interesting, thank you so much!
This collection was an interesting read, consisting of the author's personal experience, some quoted research, and interviews with other women. It is unavoidably dated at times because so much of it focuses on pop culture, fashion trends, and current events. There are some aspects of the middle-class woman's life that have changed a lot in the past 30-odd years. However, there are others that really haven't. Often I thought that the particular choices (in fashion, in jobs, in sexuality) that our culture judges women on had changed, but the same judgements and consequences have not shifted much.
As I think tends to be common with these small-press feminist books, this definitely focuses on a very particular class of women that the author belongs to, but I appreciated the author's obvious attempts to expand the viewpoint to include women of other races and classes, and a single transwoman. (The author writes a disclaimer of sorts, defending her choice to include a trans voice against complaints from potential transphobic readers, demonstrating that TERFs are not a modern problem.)

One of the books starting out in The Anthology Assortment Bookbox This book is pushing the definition pretty far, but I wanted to include some non-fiction.
Received in the Anthology bookbox.
While some of the information can be dated, a lot of still holds true today. Who in their right mind has the power to declare someone beautiful or not?
It's hard being a woman.
