I Am Legend
9 journalers for this copy...
After seeing the movie recently I very much wanted to read this book. Unfortunately it was quite a disappointment, even though the ending in the book makes much more sense regarding the title of the story than the ending of the movie did.
Since I very much doubt I will ever pick this book up again I make it available for a bookray.

Please try to read the book in a timely manner (it's not all that long, so it shouldn't take more than 4 weeks, really) and contact the next person for their address as soon as you receive the book. Thank you.
As of today the book is on its way to TheDunedan.
Thankyou samulli I received the book this morning. I am looking forward to reading it.
I haven't seen the film and so had no more than a vague idea about the storyline. I usually prefer to read a book before I see the film or TV version, but after reading it I don't feel the need to rush to see the film. Maybe because I didn't totally like the ending. I enjoyed some of the short stories also in the book, especially the longer ones.
I am waiting for Miss-R 's address and will post the book on once I receive it.
I have posted the book to Miss-R today.
This arrived on Saturday, sorry I've not journalled it earlier! Thanks for passing this on, I'll read it as soon as I can. I enjoyed the film except for the ending, hopefully the book will be better.
Well, this was...ok, I suppose. It was so different from the film, which threw me a little (quite how the film makers got away with using the same title as the book when they changed the story so much, I don't know).
I can't say I cared much about the main character, or what happened to him. Saying all of this, I did prefer this ending to the one in the film, it made much more sense with regards to the name of the book, and wasn't nearly as hopeful as the film ending.
I didn't bother with the short stories at the end. I didn't feel any great need to read anything else by the author.
The book will be passed on as soon as I get RuthyToothy's address. Thanks, samuli, for sharing!
My apologies!! I thought I'd journalled to say I'd received this book ages ago!!
Hmmmm.... well, in trying to describe this book to my husband, who had seem the film with me and really enjoyed it (as did I!), all I could say was "it's very different!" Not a good sign, I'm afraid :-( As Miss-R said above, I didn't end up feeling anything in particular for the main character, whereas when I saw the film I was really rooting for him! There were too many differences for me to list, but the most obvious is probably the ending. This was the one aspect that I thought was written far better in the book than in the film - the film had what I would call a Disney-esque ending, whereas the book's ending seemed a lot more plausible. Had the film ended the same way as the book, given how much I had invested in the main character, it would have really hit me quite hard, whereas with the book I just went "ho hum" and flicked on to see what the short stories were like!!
Some of the shorts were very good - I particularly liked The Near Departed, and The Mad House, both of which made my skin crawl :-)
I must say, the quote on the back cover baffles me: "Books like I Am Legend were an inspiration to me." - Stephen King. Unless he meant they inspired him to make his readers empathise more with the characters so that they really care what happens!
I've PMed Katrinat for her address this afternoon, and will send the book on as soon as I hear back from her.

I couldn't get into this book, I'm hoping the next person has more success
This actually arrived about a month ago, but unfortunately I was on holiday, which is why it's taken me approximately forever to journal it - sorry! After all that, I wasn't massively impressed with it - in fact, aside from the first story, I found them all pretty poor. Hope the next person enjoys it a bit more!
I was not able to read this book and I am very sorry for stalling it for so long. I will send it to snapdragongirl as soon as I get her address.
