About the author:
Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edingurgh in 1850. Though he was poor in health all his life, he yearned for adventure and, aftr leaving university, he travelled all over the world. After living in England, Switzerland, France, America, Tahiti and Australia, he and his family settled in Samoa, where Stevenson died at the age of 44.
