Aiding and Abetting

"From all accounts and police records of the affair of the seventh Earl of Lucan he was an extremely arrogant person. Arrogance is incurable."
Two handsome Englishmen begin seeing a German psychiatrist in Paris. Each claims to be Lord Lucan, a notorious (and real-life) earl who murdered his children's nanny in an attempt to murder his estranged wife and then apparently fled the country. Each claims the other is an impostor. And each knows that the psychiatrist is living under a fake name because she is a fraud--a former fake stigmatic.
A short, fast-moving novel with a satisfying (though fanciful) ending. Not as good as The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, but what is?

See you at the Meetup!
Thanks, Rampallion.
Picked up at the Meet Up in Evanston tonight.
Not sure I've read anything by Ms. Sparks. But I do remember hearing/reading about Lord Lucan back in the day.
Sounds interesting.

I recall reading about Lord Lucan - whether it was at the time of his crime or somewhat later, I don't recall. Anyway, that is why I picked this up.
Interesting thesis. Could explain why he was seen here and there ... kind of like The Scarlet Pimpernel.
"... blood, once let loose, gets all over the place. It sticks, it flows, it garishly advertises itself or accumulates in dark thick puddles. Once it gets going, there is no stopping blood."
So true, so true.
Anyway, this book puts forth the theory that the reason he was sighted everywhere was because he had a doppelganger. But the problem with letting people in on your secret - they are in on your secret and you are pretty much at their mercy.
Kind of a surprise ending, though.
