Cotton Malone retired from the high-risk world of elite operatives for the U.S. Justice Department to lead the low-key life of a rare-book dealer. But his quiet existence is shattered when he receives an anonymous e-mail: “You have something I want. You’re the only person on earth who knows where to find it. Go get it. You have 72 hours. If I don’t hear from you, you will be childless.” His horrified ex-wife confirms that the threat is real: Their teenage son has been kidnapped. When Malone’s Copenhagen bookshop is burned to the ground, it becomes brutally clear that those responsible will stop at nothing to get what they want. And what they want is nothing less than the lost Library of Alexandria.

A cradle of ideas–historical, philosophical, literary, scientific, and religious–the Library of Alexandria was unparalleled in the world. But fifteen hundred years ago, it vanished into the mists of myth and legend–its vast bounty of wisdom coveted ever since by scholars, fortune hunters, and those who believe its untold secrets hold the key to ultimate power.

Now a cartel of wealthy international moguls, bent on altering the course of history, is desperate to breach the library’s hallowed halls–and only Malone possesses the information they need to succeed. At stake is an explosive ancient document with the potential not only to change the destiny of the Middle East but to shake the world’s three major religions to their very foundations.

Pursued by a lethal mercenary, Malone crosses the globe in search of answers. His quest will lead him to England and Portugal, even to the highest levels of American government–and the shattering outcome, deep in the Sinai desert, will have worldwide repercussions.

Cotton Malone, retired U.S. operative, becomes forcibly involved in another intrigue after his son is kidnapped and his rare book store in Copenhagen is burned. The Order of the Golden Fleece, a network of politically powerful European business men and women, seeks the lost library of Alexandria. They want to destabilize the Middle East and create more economic power for the Order.

Cotton helped to protect and hide a man who was one of the few men on earth with the knowledge of the lost library's whereabouts. The Guardians of the library invite only the elite intelligentsia to come and visit.

Cotton must now help the 'bad guys' find the Library. However, the Israelis and the Saudis do not want the information the library contains to be made public knowledge so they send agents after Cotton and Pam,Cotton's ex.

This book again contains a number of Biblical hypotheses, which are interesting to read about. I wanted to throttle Pam. Here is a lawyer that is so dumb.... Suffice it to say she is the main reason Cotton got into some of the worse of the situations. I loved the intrigue, the back-stabbing and the concept of the Library of Alexandria still existing.

Cotton Malone's ex-wife shows up from the USA at his Denmark store to tell him that their son has been kidnapped. He's told that he must find the Alexandria link, which will help find the lost library of Alexandria. It is suspected that this library holds the original Testament written in Old Hebrew. Many people want to get their hands on it because there are theories that the translations of this document were incorrect and the Holy Land is actually not Palestine. Having this knowledge at hand would give a lot of power. The Israelis, Saudis, Americans, and many others are after this and would kill to get it.

The quest takes Malone and his ex-wife to London, Portugal, and Egypt. Malone also enlists the help of his past boss back in the USA who has a lot of political maneuvering to do in order to help out Malone.

This book was packed full of action and intrigue. The premise of the story leaves you wondering what would happen to the world if something like this was uncovered. How would people of Jewish, Islamic, and Christian faith react if they learned that the claims to land weren't what they thought and the Bible was translated incorrectly?

I quite like Cotton Malone as a character. He's a pretty smart guy and has some good one-liners. I enjoyed this more than the last Berry book I wrote, The Templar Legacy. It moved fast and was an easy read.

My mom, AceofHearts, passed away from breast cancer on September 17, 2013. Aside from being one of the best people I know, she was an avid reader and took immense pleasure in Bookcrossing, her book club, and reading many great books.

I will be releasing this in my mom's memory.
