This used to be one of my all-time favorite books... some of Ellison's writing is beautiful. He writes with unexpected poetry. Sometime, I'd like to get my hands on a copy of his unfinished Juneteenth. I know it was published a few years ago, but never read it.

I've always wanted to read this book, and today I found it - an almost brand new copy - sitting outside the post office! Nice!

Journal Entry 3 by VixyPixy at Post Office, see notes in Austin, Texas USA on Friday, April 25, 2003
Released on Friday, April 25, 2003 at Post Office - Central Park Station (3507 N. Lamar) in Austin, Texas USA.

I left it right outside the doors.
I saw someone pick it up & nudge it under his package inside, so hopefully he'll journal it.

Wow-- journalled before I could even make release notes for it. Fast.

Now I'm just adding this journal entry so it won't show up as "in the wild" anymore.

All right. So I finally finished, and I have to say, now I know what all the praise was for. Ellison has a way with words that surpasses the abilities of your average author. He is able to totally capture the scene no matter what it is, and this book provides ample opportunity for him to cover different settings. The questions the book raises are powerful too. I myself am white and cannot claim to have ever experienced such prejudice as the main character, and that perspective, though unsettling, is interesting. It makes you realize that these things are a lot more deeply settled than they seem at first passing. Truly an enligtening read.
