Purchased when I was out shopping with my BookCrossing friend Quiltese, on her recommendation.

Do we have a "historical fiction" category? Florence, Italy, during the time of Savonarola's ascent and decline, is the backdrop for the fictional plot, and the story moves along quickly with interesting twists. I guess I would describe it as "an entertaining read", since I did complete it... but something about the writing put me off a bit. Perhaps it was the self-absorbtion of the narrator? I can't quite put my finger on it - but this was not a whole-hearted favorite of mine.
