All three contemporary set stories are heart-warming and sweet tales laced with some sizzlie moments though none bold enough to cause the primmest of us to blink, blush or set our pulse into heart attack mode. And all three share with the compilation itself a copyright date of 1997, yet they don’t feel ridiculously out of date, they are still appealing.

The three also shared a supernatural element but in the first tale BAH, HUMBUG! by LEIGH GREENWOOD it was more incidental than the two following tales which relied on their magical characters being in more key roles. Hard pushed to pick a favourite but I realise the story line of BAH, HUMBUG stayed with me longest.

BAH, HUMBUG! by LEIGH GREENWOOD (1997) – effervescent cheerful fun, ghost element unobtrusive presence till the reveal, just the right tone.
CHRISTMAS PRESENT by ELAINE FOX (1997) – paranormal element popped up fast and often, in an obvious way, but there was a pleasing twist to this.
BLUE CHRISTMAS by LINDA WINSTEAD (1997) – supernatural component closest to Dickens’s Christmas Carol, pleasantly predictable and neat tale.

EDITED TO ADD – MON 19 NOV 2018: my planned REGENCY BOX RAY, put on hold, is finally posted.

Arrived safely in Somerset in a beautifully decorated box (recognised some paper as from me on your birthday gifts! and so appropriate for this). I have many books at present but I'm sure I can squeeze these easily read little critters in somewhere whilst reading my Secret Santa books and Book Club book. In fact, these may well not stay on tbr for long at all. This is one of two seasonally themed books in the package, both short stories from a variety of authors.

Well this just had to be read as a seasonal treat. What can I say that has not already been said - well, not a lot really! Very pleasant, easy reading - a total and welcome escape from the realities of this world at present. Was not sure at first about the 'supernatural' elements in these contemporary stories but they were certainly in the spirit of a Dickens Christmas with the title of the book also entering into a play on the theme.

I may have a plan for this as a seasonal surprise for someone else, just have to see if I can carry it out. Meanwhile available.

First thought did not work out so hopefully this one will instead. Enjoy - even though slightly out of season now! - or early if thinking of Christmas 2019.

Thank you for the surprise book package (in the familiar packaging!). I had to make a lot of effort to find the parcel as my postman left it with a neighbour and put my house number on the card instead of said neighbour’s number. So I got to meet a few neighbours I haven’t met before and to catch up with some others I haven’t seen for a while. It was worth the effort! I’m a bit stressed by work so some undemanding and entertaining books are definitely called for.
