Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday is a somewhat unusual novel in both style and content.
Dr Alfred Jones, a fisheries expert, is asked to establish a salmon river in the Yemen.
A somewhat impossible dream, but if we do not believe in our dreams, what is life for? Echoes of Santiago in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. [see BCID 5830373]
In the background is a sleazy Prime Minister and his even sleazier PR man, no substance all spin. A loosely veiled attack on Tony Blair and his odious spin doctor.
I enjoyed Salmon Fishing in the Yemen when it was read about a year ago on BBC Radio 4. I also very much enjoyed reading it when I read it around this time last year.
