It's not that Martha doesn't like children, it's more that they don't fit into her world...or her shop....or her flat. Her sisters don't understand how she can live her life as she does, but Martha thinks everything is fine.
But when her stepfather dies she discovers some old letters & she starts to think about her past. While looking for a new home for stepfathers cat, Martha meets a family who live a very different life to hers...& then an old flame reappears......
A very enjoyable story. Although Martha is the focus of the story, I liked the way the lives of her sisters were brought in, showing the relationship highs/lows of family life. Not sure I was keen on the end...I would have liked something a bit more conclusive-maybe there will be a sequel!
Thanks again yorkshire-lass for this lovely book to celebrate my first year at bookcrossing.

I love NOT winning - what a consolation prize. This looks a lovely book by the same author as having it and eating it
Have a few books to get to first - but looking forward to this. Thank you plum crazy for your generosity in RABCKing me this book and the nice postcard and bookmark too

Somehow this book was just the right one for the beginning of this year.
Martha tries to find the right place for herself in this world. Maybe she did it...
Thanks for a good read, friends!
Now, who might be the next reader?
This is my #3. in "REDUCE MOUNT TBR 2009" Challenge arranged by DovreiLibri
and also #4 in 2009 KEEP THEM MOVING CHALLENGE arranged by Guinaveve

Met with Annelis today to give her a book from Piggybag, and she gave me this! Thank you, Annelis!
It was nice to meet you and I'm looking forward to reading this book!
It was nice to meet you and I'm looking forward to reading this book!
I usually read two books at a time, one in the house and one at my work place... (don't tell my boss, please!) This time both books were about a woman going through old boy friends, in her mind or in her bed (sorry to be so blunt).
Towards the end I was a bit impatient because it seemed Martha was not getting anywhere with her thoughts. And the ending was no surprise, but a happy end of sorts. Also, I like people whose houses are in perfect order, because mine is such a mess. Maybe some day... :)
This was a nice read, and I hope to find a new reader for it soon.
