A PUZZLE, A RECLUSE, AND TWO RUNAWAYS
When suburban Claudia Kincaid decides to run away, she knows she doesn't just want to run from somewhere, she wants to run to somewhere -- to a place that is comfortable, beautiful, and, preferably, elegant. She chooses the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Knowing that her younger brother Jamie has money and thus can help with a serious cash-flow problem, she invites him along.
Once settled into the museum, Claudia and Jamie find themselves caught up in the mystery of an angel statue that the museum purchased at auction for a bargain price of $225. The statue is possibly an early work of the Renaissance master, Michaelangelo, and therefore worth millions. Is it? Or isn't it? Claudia is determined to find out. Her quest leads her to Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, the remarkable old woman who sold the statue, and to some equally remarkable discoveries about herself.
"All [readers] hope for in a book: humour, suspense, intrigue, and their problems acknowledged seriously but not somberly."
~ School Library Journal, starred review.

My grade four teacher read this book aloud to us. I have very fond memories of this story. I was really surprised to see this slightly fancier edition of it pop up when I went looking for this, but I guess that's because I hadn't realized how long it's been around.
I bought this book as a gift for bethieb, the winner of a sweepstakes. I hope she doesn't already have it! **laughs** Enjoy!

Thank you GateGypsy! Your package arrived today in Kentucky. I loved this book when I was in elementary school too and remember checking it out from the school library. Another generous BCer sent me a copy after seeing it on my wish list, and I re-read it just last week. I still think it's a great story. I'll try to find the perfect release spot so that it will continue to be read and loved.

I’m working at Zion National park just for the summer, I’m actually from Pennsylvania. I’m a housekeeper and the company that hired me (Xanterra) has dorm rooms for the employees. I found this book in the communal laundry room where we have a free bin that people leave stuff for others. Sometimes I read books left behind while I wait for my laundry to finish.
