The author remembers her childhood growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I found it interesting to read about life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 1950s and early 1960s from the view point of a child of privilege. The author has a vibrant imagination and is captivated by nature: insects, rocks, plants, birds, and the outdoors. She is also enthralled with history, particularly local history. As the author enters the teen years, she changes dramatically and becomes full of rage and unable to sit still. Having experienced a mild form of teenage angst and rebellion, reading this book helped me to understand that the behavior of some teens might be heavily influenced by hormones or some sort of mental condition such as hyperactivity.
