"Cats have a way of always having been there even if they've only just arrived. They move in their own personal time. They act as if the human world is one they just happened to stop off in, on their way to somewhere that is possibly a whole lot more interesting."

Highly enjoyable, contains many truths about cats and their owners, all written with the irresistible wit and humor of Terry Pratchett.

To be offered as a bookring!

Received book today, will start reading this afternoon, stay tuned!!

This is a lovely little book to read, I managed to finish it in one sitting smiling as I did. If you own a cat or cats you can relate to the humour, though I now believe I don't own any "real" cats, lol....

Will be posting on tomorrow, Enjoy and Happy Bookcrossing!!

Journal Entry 4 by briz-cowgirl from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Tuesday, February 5, 2008
This is a delightful little book, 157 pages but oh-so-easy to read, you will knock it over in no time at all. It looks at the world of our feline friends, from the point of view of the cat. The observations and behaviours that Pratchett mentions are so spot on, and the illustrations from Gray Jolliffe are simple but gorgeous. I especially loved the section "Games cats play"! Cat owners will really love this.

Thanks deadendmind for this bookring!
Posting off to Shausha shortly...

UPDATED 08/02/08: Book is now heading to KaiJinsbigsis instead, awaiting mailing details.

As a purist, I feel that the Campaign for Real Cats is too wide ranging. It needs a narrower focus, and I suggest the NRF - Nocturnal Rambling Feline. Certainly Real cats have faces and bodies that look as if they have been hit repeatedly with a volume of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's "Songs What I Copied From Other People" (complete edition with appendices), but in addition they are those cats who disappear at 11pm and turn up for food sometime the next day with a satisfied look on their face (plus possibly the fur of another cat/dog/fox between their claws). A fun read!

This book arrived in Helsinki today, good someone was home to help the postoffice deliver all the ringbooks again :-)

Thanks a lot deadendmind for making a bookring out of this, and of course thank you flambard for sending it to Finland.

Will be nice to read some funny book for a change, after all the others that we have here now...

Journal Entry 15 by necoconeco from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Thursday, June 5, 2008
Our cats are just like it says in the book!
It's funny, but too short! =(

Journal Entry 16 by winghippoleinwing from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Saturday, June 7, 2008
Wonderful funny, hilarious, absolutely best picture of our 3 cats at home I ever came across :-)

Fast read, could have been a bit more elaborated, but at least didn't get boring in the running. If someone doesn't get a book we promised, just think about it we have 3 Real Cats at home!

Next off to my wife, and then it will go on a trip of its own :)

It just arrived!

I'm actually with a quite heavy TBR but I promise to go through this book asap!

Thank you deadendmind for sharing this book!

Thank you hippolein for sending it and specially for the "extra" :-D

Journal Entry 20 by TonyAlmeida from Vagos, Aveiro Portugal on Thursday, July 24, 2008
Hum! I admit that I enjoy very much Terry Pratchett's Discworld books as well as "Good Omens" but this "Unadulterated Cat" is somewhat a minor work.

As some of you already said, I also have a cat and it is somewhat funny to see some "truths" here and there in the text.

Honestly, I was expecting a funnier book. Ok, it's a short book, it has some funny excerpts (I enjoy very much the beginning of the book as weel as "the Schrödinger Cats", "the Cat in History" and "Hygiene" chapters) but that's it. It's just a book for the moment.

deadendmind, thank you very much for the opportunity of reading this book.

I'm expecting for alienagr's reply. As soon as I get an answer I'll post the book down to Greece.

Well that’s how real cats are! The book was truly short but I think that it was as much as I could handle! Funny indeed, smart and honest. I especially enjoyed the illustrations from Gray Jolliffe.

Thank you deadendmind for sharing, lox3 for sending it to me, efou for bringing it. I have already contact le-petit-prince and I am waiting for an address at Crete. It is packed so as soon as I am pmed with all the necessary information, it will be sent!

I'm sorry for the delay, but the book found me in the middle of my final exams.
As soon as they were over I took my dog for a walk near the sea and taught him how real cat are (he's actually a cat person so he didn't feel offended by the book). It was very funny and very smart! Thank you deadendmind and again sorry for keeping it that long.
I 've already contacted ksotikouli and I'm expecting for her reply. The moment I get an answer I'll post it!

Ι ve just received it!!

Journal Entry 36 by redrighthand on Friday, October 16, 2009
I just finished it, sorry i was so late...Well, being a cat person myself, i particularly enjoyed this book and i especially liked the fact that, according to Pratchett's instructions, i once had a real cat that had most of the menthioned characteristics. So i definately liked this well written and easy to ne read book, that is so different from what i ve usually read from Pratchett. I ll give it to Tolkef as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 37 by redrighthand on Wednesday, December 23, 2009

I've just returned from the post office with the book. It's nearly exams season for me, but since the book is quite short I don't think I'll have a problem with the deadline.

Journal Entry 39 by maria-gr from Camden, Greater London United Kingdom on Thursday, January 14, 2010
So I couldn't put the book away without having a look first, one thing led to another and I ended up reading the whole thing in a few hours.

It's a lovely and quite funny book to read. Funny not in a laughing, but in a smiling and grinning way. Even though I'm a flying McNuggets owner, I have been occasionally adopted by farm cats and could therefore agree with some of the truths pointed out by Pratchett.

Deadendmind thanks for organising this bookring! :) I'm off to contact the next person on the list.

Got it! As if I don't have enough kitties at home! (5 'mine' and 2 occasional 'visitors')

Journal Entry 42 by okyrhoe from Athens - Αθήνα, Attica Greece on Tuesday, February 23, 2010
This funny little book has been a welcome respite from the string of somber hefty tome's I've had to read recently (Gutierrez's Tropical Animal, Tsiolkas' The Slap, & Walker's Monstrous), so I did enjoy reading it. I was smiling to myself at many instances.

But...I feel that overall the book is not as good as it could be. There are two places in particular where Pratchett's writing comes off as unpolished.
"The Locked Gerbil Mystery" could very well be just a draft version, with shorthand/clipped sentences that make the segment read like it's almost a telegram.
And "The cats we missed" is another weak (ie, not so funny) segment which shouldn't have been placed at the strategic end of the book. The endearing ironic tone that was constant throughout now fades away and there's no memorable closure.

The Schrodinger cats section is certainly the best bit!

Thanks deadendmind for including me in the ring, the book will be passed on to pengman at the monthly meetup this coming Sunday.

Ha ha, that was fun!

Pratchett has a mysterious, ironic sense of humour. He takes fact about cats and tries to make them more funny using exageration and satire.

I am not used to reading literature in English, so I missed some of the points and the fun too. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot.

Btw, 20% of the book was read in a bed-before-sleep session and the rest of it the next evening (-:

Thank you deadendmind!

To book will head for the next reader, tzoutzou, that is!

Journal Entry 45 by olrandir at Athens - Αθήνα, Attica Greece on Saturday, December 25, 2010
Pratchett is always intelligent and a fascinating read, even if this wasn't up to his usual standards. Certain concepts (like the Schrodinger cats a.o.) were genius, and it was very entertaining to read descriptions of easily identifiable cat behaviour.

Will return it to the original bookring starter now that I've finished it!

Journal Entry 46 by StrangeEmily at Trikala, Trikala Greece on Friday, July 5, 2013
It was fun reading this on the beach and in the hotel at Skyros during the 8th Greek Bookcrossing Convention, missing my cat!

I learned in this book, among the funny facts, that tortoises don't fear cats! And I was hesitating to adopt one little tortoise last spring.
Thank you so much deadendmind!

I'll send it to the next one, tzoutzou is that?
