'A classic tale of jeopardy and haunting suspense.
Nancy Harmon has fled the heartbreak of her first marriage, the macabre deaths of her two little children, the hostile front-page newspaper stories and the shocking charges against her. She now has changed her name, dyed her hair and moved house. Now, enjoying a new life with a wonderful husband and two beautiful children, Nancy feels she can at last forget her tragic history and start believing in second chances...
Until the morning she looks outside for her little boy and girl, finds one red mitten and knows the nightmare is beginning again...'

I adore MHC and her writings - they freak me out in a good way time and time again. This, I belive, was her first novel, one that took years to make the author an overnight success.
Found in excellent condition in St. Neots' Oxfam branch for £1.99.

Oh My Goodness. This was truly a fantastic thriller! I started to read this the day before I went away for a weekend and then foolishly put it down - mainly because I couldn't get anymore books in my bag! Anyway, as I was home from work poorly sick yesterday (Wednesday 13th Feb 2008) I was at liberty to pick this one up and start it all over again. And I can't believe I put it down without finishing it the first time! Woah. Truly creepy. Nancy's children from her first marriage *were* snatched and the perpertrator has waited and watched Nancy for seven years in order to repeat the crime all over again. Nancy can't remember much from the first traumatic time, but fate (and MHC!) have seen fit to place her late mother's almost-fiance has retired to the same town on Cape Cod where Nancy and her second husband live. He is a psychotherapist and is determined to help Nancy find out the truth before she is whisked off to court in a glare of publicity to be charged with the murder of her children and sent to the gas chamber - a fate Nancy only escaped with 7 years ago because of a mis-trial. Can Nancy's children be found alive this time? And can Nancy finally remember the exact circumstances of the first time her children where taken and found dead?
Well, obviously I'm not going to say here - it would ruin it for the next reader! Making this very chilling book available for someone else to 'enjoy'!
