This book was purchased from the Citizens for the Charles County Public Library, Inc. (C4CCPL) Used-Book Store, located on the lower level of the La Plata Branch Library. Citizens for the Charles County Public Library, Inc. (C4CCPL) is a non-profit, all volunteer group dedicated to expand public awareness and support for the Charles County, Maryland, Public Library system.

I got this book back on October 20th. They ended their big week long sale by selling books for $1 per bag. I got 10 bags of books that I can register and release!

One of my favorite features of BookCrossing is the opportunity to track books where ever they may go. We just moved from Waldorf, MD to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. and it is time to update each book's location and make sure that we have located each book after the move.

I am trying to set the status of all my books to be correct at this time.

Permanent Collection (PC) means that I plan to keep this book for the foreseeable future.

Available (AVL) means that I have read the book or don't desire to read the book and it is ready to move on in some fashion.

To Be Read (TBR) means that I plan to read it (at least someday) and after I read it I will decide what to do with it.

I reserve the right to change my mind at any time!

From the back cover (of at least one copy of this book):

They call themselves the Brethren: three disgraced former judges doing time in a Florida federal prison. One was sent up for tax evasion. Another, for skimming bingo profits. And the third, for a career-ending drunken joyride. Meeting daily inthe prison law library, taking exercise walks in their boxer shorts, these judges-turned-felons can reminisce about old court cases, dispense a little jailhouse justice, and contemplate where their lives went wrong.

Or they can use their time in prison to get very rich - very fast.

And so they sit, sprawled in the prison library, furiously writing letters, fine-tuning a wickedly brilliant extortion scam...while events outside their prison walls begion to erupt. A bizarre presidential election is holding the nation in its grips - and a powerful government figure is pulling some very hidden strings. For the Brethern, the timing couldn't be better.

Because they've just found the perfect victim...

This book had me curious right from the start. In chapter one we are introduced to the Brethren and in chapter two we are introduced to an up and coming politician that is going to run for president. The question is how will these two distinctly different groups come together in this story?

I got caught up in both schemes and I was intrigued to see where the story would go next. It seemed to be a very quick read as I zoomed through the pages to get to the ending. I can't say that there were all that many surprises in this book but it was more than interesting enough to keep me reading.

I like the style of John Grisham because of the straight forward writing that doesn't make the reader think to hard about things that might be hidden between the lines or if the author is taking you for a wild ride that would be a disappointment.

This is one of the John Grisham books that I liked a lot and I would recommend it to someone that is new to this author. I hope that the next person who gets this book will enjoy it as I have.

This book was read for the 2009 Pages Read Challenge from the release challenge forum.

My goal is 35,000 pages and this book has a total of 424 pages* that I am counting for this challenge. I have a total of 25 books read this year with 5305 pages read for the year and that is 15.157% of my 2009 goal.

*I have several different copies of this book in three different forms that have different page counts. The amount of pages for the challenge was taking the different number of page counts and dividing by three to get the average number of pages.
