Book #1 in Heather Wells Mystery series.

Book Description:

HEATHER WELLS ROCKS!

Or, at least, she did. That was before she left the pop-idol life behind after she gained a dress size or two -- and lost a boyfriend, a recording contract, and her life savings (when Mom took the money and ran off to Argentina). Now that the glamour and glory days of endless mall appearances are in the past, Heather's perfectly happy with her new size 12 shape (the average for the American woman!) and her new job as an assistant dorm director at one of New York's top colleges. That is, until the dead body of a female student from Heather's residence hall is discovered at the bottom of an elevator shaft.

The cops and the college president are ready to chalk the death off as an accident, the result of reckless youthful mischief. But Heather knows teenage girls . . . and girls do not elevator surf. Yet no one wants to listen -- not the police, her colleagues, or the P.I. who owns the brownstone where she lives -- even when more students start turning up dead in equally ordinary and subtly sinister ways. So Heather makes the decision to take on yet another new career: as spunky girl detective!

But her new job comes with few benefits, no cheering crowds, and lots of liabilities, some of them potentially fatal. And nothing ticks off a killer more than a portly ex-pop star who's sticking her nose where it doesn't belong . . .

Jan. 25th: This book was so great! I just loved it. It reminded me of the Stephanie Plum character from Janet Evanovich mixed in with Bridget Jones. Really good! I hope that everyone else enjoys it. I can't wait to read the next one in the series! "Size 14 is Not Fat Either"

I'm going to offer as a Bookring!

What perfect timing, to arrive on a Friday! I'll finish the romance I'm currently reading this weekend and then be ready to start this one! I just adore Meg Cabot, I have a really hard time staying away from her blog, so I'm really looking forward to this!

Journal Entry 6 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Thursday, February 21, 2008
I enjoyed it! Meg Cabot is always great. At first I wasn't sure about this one. Even though this book is written for adults rather than teenagers, it still read like a teen book, but with more grown up language and sexual references. For some reason that kind of bothered me in the beginning. But once I got past that, I really enjoyed it. I was disapointed not to have a resolution with Cooper, but then remembered that it is the first book in a series, so of course that storyline will probably be played out further in the next book, which I defintely want to read.

I had PMd bookhunter21 on February 15, but have not had a response, so I'll PM her again now.

Journal Entry 7 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Friday, February 29, 2008
My PMs weren't going through, but bookhunter21 saw my ISO post and sent me her address, so book is in the mail this morning!

Journal Entry 8 by wingbookhunter21wing from Saint Paul, Minnesota USA on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Received today as a bookring. I have 2 books ahead of it, but will get to it after that and maybe sooner. I looked at the first chapter and I am hooked!

Journal Entry 9 by wingbookhunter21wing from Saint Paul, Minnesota USA on Sunday, April 6, 2008
Really good book--fun, breezy, conversational style and not a bad whodunit. I love the Princess Diaries by the same author and the writing reminded me of Mia in her awkward (pre-Princess) days. Heather is a fun and sympathetic heroine; I love that she has already named her imaginary children with Cooper and is easily distracted by Doritos and Dove bars! The excerpts of Heather's pop hits are hilariously close to the soppy teen Mall hits of real life. I am looking forward to reading the next 2 books in the series. Thanks for sharing this in a bookring!

PS--Size 12 is not "portly" either!

I will mail this out to BigBird this week.

This book really wasn't my style. I've liked other books by this author, but I felt this one had a very whiny tone. On its way to DoveiLibri today! Thank you for letting me be part of this ring.

Journal Entry 13 by wingDove-i-Libriwing from Cape Coral, Florida USA on Monday, April 21, 2008
Rec'd this book in the mail today ... it looks fun. I have to read two books ahead of it, and then will send it on it's merry way to POLAND to start the next leg of its journey!

It will have to wait until I'm done with some other bookrings, but I'll try to be reasonably quick...

Journal Entry 16 by kiyoitsukikage from Brixton, Greater London United Kingdom on Sunday, June 22, 2008
I actually managed to read the book at one go ^^ Although it didn't seem so in the beginning, it turned out to be a fun read - it actually had me laughing at more than one point. ;) The plot wasn't the most elaborate, as expected, but still I think the book was entertaining enough.
Thank you for sharing and sorry for holding the ring up. I PMed the next person.

Enough with the dorm/residence hall thing! It's annoying! There, sorry, but I had to get it out of my chest!
The book is ok, I found myself rooting for Heather in a couple of chapters, smiling at some remarks, but I'm not dying to read the next in the series.
I will give this author another try, probably with the Queen of Babble series.
Thanks for sharing it with me. I'll send it to the next reader next week.

Thank you, blackteiwaz, the book had arrived to my doorstep while I was away for Christmas. Thanks for sending all the way to Finland.

I have some books in my read-soon-TBR's, but I'll sort them tonight and get started with the pile. Starting this one will probably go nearer to mid-January, but I have a lot of time in my hands after New Year. :)

Edit on Jan 2, 2009:
Nah, couldn't wait, started reading this one last night. The James Dean biography has to wait a bit..

Journal Entry 26 by bookwormess from Kotka, Kymenlaakso / Kymmenedalen Finland on Wednesday, January 7, 2009
Well, this was kind of ok. I loved The Boy Next Door and hated the All-American Girl. Unfortunately this falls a bit more to the latter. The story was good and exciting, read over half of the book in few days as the firts half took several days.

What annoyed me was all those unnecessary remarks about how Cooper's so so so hot and also the way she repeated thing as a thought. Things, that had nothing to do with the thing whe was actually thinking about (like with Jordan's name there was always something like "who is the guy I lived with and caught in mischief with Tania Trace"). Removing them the book had probably been 50 pages shorter... Those were the things that reminded me of All-American Girl (where the girl saves the president from being murdered and all she is worried is that her parents will know she skipped her art class...) which irritated me most in the book.

There was funny things too. The remarks about pop culture (the boybandish things in Jordan, how very Britney and Justin they were, etc) were really the things I enjoyed the most. As far the plot goes, I surprisingly knew the murdered and the motive in quite early stage which I quite rarely do. But I don't know if I'll read the next ones in the series.

I already have the next participant's address and am mailing the book today.

This book is 1 out of 55 in REDUCE MOUNT TBR CHALLENGE 2009.
