The building of the Chicago World's Fair is fascinating reading. I find it hard to believe we could do anything on similar scale today. I have some small ties to make it more interesting. My grandmother was born in Chicago and was about 10 years old when the fair opened. I am sure she and her family must have attended. It is a bit appalling, also, that I have a few Mudgett's in my ancestry (that is one line I won't try to pursue ;) and that I live in New Hampshire.
