Unabridged, 1 CD.

Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, two ranch hands, come together when they're working as sheep herder and camp tender one summer on a range above the tree line. At first, sharing an isolated tent, the attraction is casual, inevitable, but something deeper catches them that summer.

Both men work hard, marry, have kids because that's what cowboys do. But over the course of many years and frequent separations this relationship becomes the most important thing in their lives, and they do anything they can to preserve it.

Brokeback Mountain was originally published in the New Yorker - it won the National Magazine Award and was included in the O. Henry Stories 1998. In gorgeous and haunting prose Proulx limns the difficult, dangerous affair between two cowboys that survives everything but the world's violent intolerance.

A nice, quick little listen. I liked hearing the story again, and I still teared up at the end. Now I'm looking forward to watching the film again with my BF, who hasn't seen it yet.

The narrator for this short audio story was absolutely perfect for this piece. I loved hearing this story again and it was wonderfully done. It did Ms. Proulx proud.

Don't worry, I know I will enjoy it. :D
I am surprised though it says unabridged on one CD - I wonder how thin the book is?

Journal Entry 8 by candieb from Austin, Texas USA on Thursday, January 24, 2008
Note: It's a short story I think more than a "real" book. :)

Journal Entry 9 by wingAzukiwing from Miami, Florida USA on Thursday, May 22, 2008
I haven't seen the movie and I think I am definitely missing out on the beautiful Montana vista that would it so much more lovelier. The story itself is well written, the tension well felt in some of the scenes. The ending is especially memorable.
This is one story that after "reading" the book I want to see the movie.
Now savinf for Luckaye's M Bag. Books have been slow in coming lately so it may be a while before I save up a box to send.
