Received along with the rest of this series thanks to the RABCK generosity of Collegelady!
One reading goal for the summer was to read this excellent series (which in fact has five titles, not the three I originally thought). The continuing story of the Reavley family and their experiences in WWI interwoven with several threads of suspense: who is the Peacemaker? Who is working with him? Who passed the documents to the parents that led to their murder? In this second tome, the focus is mostly on Joseph who has become a chaplain in the trenches near Ypres, and much of the book is a very accurate and horrific accounting of the experiences of the soldiers in this ghastly war. Anne Perry does a wonderful job laying out all the different reactions to a war, at least this one, making everybody's point of view seem realistic, but there is never any doubt where her beliefs lie, in that a life worth living much include honor and the willingness to not accept living an unhonorable imposed existence which would lose all the joy of the things one fights for. I am zipping through these volumes in a couple or three days most and love them in spite of the fearful reality.
Second in the series accompanies the first off to Kansas to an avid reader of great tales!
in the package to Gullinaarr.....
Just received this from MmeClinton, am looking forward to reading it!
