I love sending American authors to my UK friends. So when I saw Poe on stubee's wishlist and found this book, I knew it was perfect for his birthday RABCK! I like Poe's works and have my own collection. This one includes Sixty-seven Tales, One Complete Novel, and Thirty-one Poems.

I hope stubee enjoys the various works in this collection. Happy birthday!

The first of Poe’s three entries in the 1001 Books: You Must Read Before You Die ; "The Fall of the House of Usher" is a enticing tale about the end of Roderick Usher's life (and home), his demeanour and the merging of reality and the fantasy world he’s living in; Poe’s descriptive narrative, through the eyes of Roderick’s childhood friend, is brilliant! A must read for everyone!

Thanks to Adrienne10 for giving me the oppurtunity to read these works, you're a great Birthday RABCK buddy! :-]

The second of Poe’s three entries in the 1001 Books: You Must Read Before You Die ; "The Pit and the Pendulum"; a dark tale about a solitary prisoner; the trauma and torment that must be felt in a dark enclosed prison without light, only for when the light is restored to find something much more frightening. I'm amazed at times by the narrators calmness, maybe this comes with insanity! A great tale, one filled with both dread, sometimes hope and often terror.

The third and final of Poe’s three entries in the 1001 Books: You Must Read Before You Die ; "The Purloined Letter"; - just a brilliant work of genius, a trick upon a trick; a great narrative (or conversation) and a great mind. Remember "It’s not all in the detail!"

:-]

Well now that I’ve read these 1001 Book entries I must return to my stack of bookrings and rays, I will however return to Poe in the not too distant future!

I haven't made a journal entry against this in a while but I had read "MS. Found In A Bottle" and "Berenice" in 2014.

I've picked this back up Today (06.09.16) and read the story of Morella - a good short gothic story. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so he's a link to the Wikipedia page.
