From the Back Cover
‘Field of Blood is more challenging than a crime novel, more engaging than any social commentary, way, way more inspiring, inventive and downright chilling than a thriller, and far more intelligently literate than the mass of other crime writers trying to catch up behind her...Terrifying' Manda Scott
In Glasgow a toddler goes missing, snatched from the front garden of his home. But while the city braces itself for the discovery of a long sexual predator, the police are led to the doors of two eleven-year-old boys.
Paddy Meehan has just started work on the Scottish Daily News. Her parents assume that she will get married and start a family, but all Paddy dreams of is becoming an investigative reporter.
Everyone at the Daily News believes that the boys acted alone. Only Paddy feels that there may be more to it than this, and she begins to ask awkward questions – much to the annoyance of her immediate family. Shunned by those closest to her, she soon finds herself dangerously alone…

‘Denise Mina is quite simply a must-read writer for anybody who thinks that crime fiction is as important as it is entertaining. This is powerful, passionate and compelling stuff. Mina can chill your blood and break your heart in the same sentence. The Field of Blood is the start of what will surely be a remarkable new series’ Mark Billingham

On the whole I enjoyed this book, but felt the story of the real Paddy Meehan was shoe-horned in and did not add anything positive to the novel. In fact, Mina skimmed over the nature of the crime in the story and was very thin on motivation etc. The exploits of the young protagonist, the fictional Paddy Meehan, were enjoyable and Mina is very adept at describing Glasgow and Scottish traits.
