The Poison That Fascinates

Received today by post from the publisher, Canongate books. Many thanks. I love the cover illustration/colour and am intrigued by the blurb. I look forward to reading this shortly.
The Poison that Fascinates is a beautifully written book set in Mexico City. The poetic prose conjures up the sights and sounds of the city, with a slight air of mystery, but rooted in daily reality. This reality for Emily is living at home with her father and work in a local orphanage. Her mother went missing when she was a child and she is regarded as a mystery to the children as she is "half an orphan".
Mother Agata, who runs the orphanage is described as a very large woman - a giant and I wasn't sure if the writer intended for her to a mythical figure or if that is left to our interpretation.
As the story progressed I became increasingly cross with Emily for allowing Santiago to be so domineering in their relationship. I know this was understandable to a point, because previously she had led a very sheltered life, but as a university student I expected her to have become more 'worldly-wise' and less submissive.

I caught the book while on a Sunday walk up the Bin of Cullen on the last day of the school holidays. I will read then release the book so it can continue it's journey.
A beautifully written book. It was very difficult to put down. The murderous facts interwoven throughout ensured an original tale.
I´ve just found the book today at the summit of Ben Lomond near Glasgow, Scotland. Didn´t know anything about Bookcrossing but it all sounds very exciting! Will read and pass it!!
