Cambridge is sweltering, during an unusually hot summer. To Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, the world consists of one accounting sheet - lost on the left, found on the right - and the two never seem to balance. Jackson has never felt at home in Cambridge, and has a failed marriage to prove it. Surrounded by death, intrigue and misfortune, his own life haunted by a family tragedy, he attempts to unravel three disparate case histories and begins to realise that in spite of apparent diversity, everything is connected...

This is the second book by Atkinson I have read and I intend to read all of them as I enjoyed this one very much. The book has great (if rather eccentric) characters and draws you in quickly by presenting you with long missing people, murder and other mysteries to be solved. Can't wait to read more by this author.

Will offer this book as ray.

Hi received today, thanks!
I'm going backwards here, because I have just finished reading One Good Turn, which is the sequel to this - so I'm going in reverse order. Thanks for sharing - I'm looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed this! I loved how some of the stories were intertwined but kept me guessing virtually until the end. The characters were very well drawn and I especially liked poor sad Theo. It's difficult to write any more without giving the stories away!

I'll be adding other Kate Atkinson books to my wishlist as I enjoyed this one so much and her style of writing made reading the book a pleasure.

Thank you so much for sharing, RubyBlueLady. I'll be posting it on to maggiemo this afternoon.
