A very powerful book, sobering and thought provoking. An unusual book dealing with the human consequences of the second world war.

Looking forward to reading this and commenting on it.

Caught via my wife from one of her colleagues.
An interesting book, but I found it a bit of an uphill struggle because it was so slow moving. I had a couple of breaks in the middle to read some lighter, more engaging books, but kept coming back to it - so I suppose that is something of a recommendation (that I didn't completely abandon it :-)
I think that the big problem for me was that I really didn't engage with the characters, and whether any of them survived the war was of only academic interest to me. I also found the whole "Death as the narrator" a bit contrived, a way of escaping the very limited confines of the camera to make reference to the bigger picture of what was happening in Germany.
