This book was difficult for me to finish. The writing was very good, but it was very crass which I found too raw and mildly offensive. I didn't think I was very sensitive that way, but it just wasn't something I enjoyed at those points. The families are very complicated equally messed up--which makes the resulting marriage and relationship interesting to say the least. It certainly didn't sugar coat anything, and the honesty in it was a little jarring at times.

Not a book to cheer you up, but despite all the hardships and complications in Rosa and Gary's lives, it didn't weigh on my when it was finished--perhaps the vulgarity serves to allow readers to keep some emotional distance from the characters. What was interesting is that despite all the flaws in the characters, I ended up liking them--and there were LOTS of flaws.

It was a different book than I usually read, and for that it was a nice change. I will put this aside for Moody-Blue's Every Color of the Rainbow Bookbox.
