All He Ever Wanted

I have been very fond of some of Anita Shreve's other books, but this one just did not impress me. I thought it was over-written, and it seemed like she was trying too hard to achieve a certain voice. It is certainly not the worst book I have ever read, but I was expecting to enjoy it more than I did.
This is going to bookcrosser beachglass.
I stayed up too late last finishing this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm a big fan of Anita Shreve, and marvel at how she can, through the use of language, send me back 100 years in time.
By the end of this book I couldn't stand either of the main characters, Nicholas, or Etna. They were both immature, selfish, and devious, which made them very interesting to read about, but hard to like.
Thanks stephc, for sharing another great book with me! :-)

Received this book today from a very generous bookcrosser! Will update journal after reading. Ms. Shreve is one of my fave's so I'm looking forward to this read! Thanks, beachglass!
Finally pulled this one down from Mt. TBR. I have to agree with stephc's assessment of this book. While not awful.....it didn't seem to be on a par with her other books, which I've thoroughly enjoyed. Now available for trade or release.
