I've been waiting to read this - thanks again, lellie.
Set in France during the beginning of the Nazi occupation of Paris in 1940-41, this is an incomplete novel, written by Irène Némirovsky. She died in August, 1942 at Auschwitz. Appendices include her plans for the rest of the novel and relevant correspondence.
Very powerful story - all the better I thought because of the contrast in pacing between the first and second sections, "Storm in June" and "Dolce".
Always a sense of the immediate - lots of detail in description; great variety of characters; main themes - survival and betrayal.
